Guatemala is the most populous country in Central America and its capital, Guatemala City, is accessible with many direct flights from South, Central, and North America, and Europe. Most travelers can reach Guatemala City with just one connecting flights from their home airport. From La Aurora International Airport (in Guatemala City) tourist shuttles and taxis convey travelers at all hours of day and night directly to lodging in La Antigua Guatemala, which is about one hour from the airport.
La Antigua Guatemala is a small and compact pedestrian-friendly colonial city of some 50,000 inhabitants. As a UNESCO world-heritage site it is the primary tourist destination for Guatemalans as well as for international travelers.
